How can creativity help children learn how to do hard things?
One of my little granddaughters is a strong-willed child who knows what she wants to do – and what she doesn’t want to do, especially when cleaning up a messy room! Already having the frustrating experience of yelling and fighting with my children to clean up their rooms (to no avail) I approached this task with a different mindset. (Wisdom comes with age!) Glaring at me definitely with her chin stuck out, I pretended to be a character in one of her favorite movies and started to act out the scene. She slipped into character and together we laughed and played as we cleaned up the room. Several years later, she comes up with her own creative ways to keep cleaning fun!
